(INDIANAPOLIS) - Hoosiers can't get enough of the new Blackout license plate. The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles reports sales topping 70,000 in just three months and generating more than $2.3 million to reinvest back into the agency.

The BMV says the sleek black-and-white plate is now rivaling some of Indiana's top-selling specialty plates -- and demand is outpacing similar designs in other states. While most plates sold so far have gone on standard passenger vehicles, officials are reminding drivers that Blackout plates are also available for light trucks under 11,000 pounds, motorcycles, and RVs.

BMV Commissioner Kevin Garvey says the plate's popularity comes down to giving customers more options that fit their vehicle's style.

A disability Blackout plate is also in the works and will debut in 2026.

Drivers can order the Blackout plate at any BMV branch, online at myBMV.com, or at a 24-hour BMV Connect kiosk. Additional fees apply.
