Bontrager Dropping Anchor to Lead Panther Boys Varsity Basketball
Monday, May 17, 2021

BRUSHY PRAIRIE, IN - A familiar face to the Northeast Corner Conference will be the new head varsity boys basketball coach at Prairie Heights Community Schools.

After nearly twenty years of coaching everything from youth to high school basketball at Lakeland, Delmar Bontrager is dropping his anchor to lead the Panther boys varsity basketball program at Prairie Heights.

Bontrager is a 1996 graduate of Lakeland, where many will likely remember him as a player during his own high school career.

Coach Bontrager said he started his coaching career in 2000 coaching AAU Basketball, which gave him an opportunity to fall in love with the game all over again.  He last coached under Nick Burlingam during the 2019-2020 varsity boys basketball season at Lakeland.

After sitting out just one season, Bontrager said he quickly learned how much he missed coaching.  Bontrager said he has always been impressed with how passionate the Prairie Heights Community is, especially how hard the athletes work.

Coach Bontrager says his philosophy as a coach is “Be the person you needed when you were young”.
