Many are already wondering how the government shutdown will affect filing their taxes...but more so how soon they will see their tax returns...
In the event that the government shutdown lingers into tax filing season, those who file early will likely not get their refunds right away.
According the Internal Revenue Service's shutdown contingency plan, they only retain about 12.5% of its workforce, which is just under 10,000 of its 80,000 plus employees. During a shutdown, the IRS will continue to process returns, however; they will not process refunds.
Shutdown, or no shutdown, they still accept payments, and they want them on time. If you owe money to the government, it’s still due by April 15.
