The Indiana Department of Transportation will receive two Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grants totaling $40 million, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) announced late yesterday. INDOT will be awarded two $20 million grants to help fund two projects to expand and rehabilitate Interstate 65.
According to Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, "More than 1.5 billion tons of freight and millions of people rely on Indiana's interstate system every year, and freight movement on our interstates is forecast to grow by 60 percent in the next 30 years". The Governor has identified widening several of the busiest interstates as an infrastructure priority for his administration.
The funds awarded to Indiana will support projects to add lanes to I-65 in Boone County and in Bartholomew County.
