A Shipshewana woman was seriously injured in a Friday night crash.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department says 19 year old Natalie Aaliayah-Renee Whiteman of Shipshewana was driving west on Banker Street and failed to stop at the intersection of Shimmel Road. Her vehicle was struck by a southbound SUV driven by 47 year old Carmita Hunter of Centreville.
Whiteman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. She was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo and is in serious condition.
Hunter and her two passengers, 20 year old Madison Hunter and 32 year old Jill Peterson, both of Centreville, refused treatment at the scene.
Another accident happened while rescue personnel were still at the scene of the incident at Shimmel and Banker Street. Deputies say emergency personnel were rerouting traffic on Shimmel Road near Sauger Lake Road.
A vehicle driven by a 17 year old Centreville resident struck the emergency vehicle, which had its lights activated. A firefighter was able to avoid being struck.
The driver was taken into custody for driving under the influence of drugs.
