Authorities believe alcohol was a factor in a crash late Friday night that left an Angola man seriously injured.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of County Road 300 West just south of State Road 120 in rural Jamestown Township for a report of a single vehicle personal injury crash. The initial call came just before 11:30 PM Friday night.
First officers on the scene found a white 2005 Chevy cargo van up against a large tree with heavy front end damage. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 35 year old Jason Loy of Angola, was still trapped inside the vehicle.
Firefighters with the Fremont Fire Department had to use their Jaws of Life to free Loy from the wreckage. He was transported to a Fort Wayne area hospital in serious but stable condition for treatment by Steuben County EMS.
Reports indicate that Loy was traveling southbound on 300 West when for an unknown reason, he veered off of the east side of the roadway colliding with a mailbox and then a tree. The Steuben County Sheriff's Department Investigators say that they believe alcohol is a factor and the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
Assisting the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Fremont Fire Department and Steuben County EMS.
