A 32 year old man and a 27 year old woman, both from Howe, Indiana were arrested early yesterday morning on multiple drug charges after the car they were driving in was stopped by a Trooper from the Indiana State Police Toll Road Post.
According to Trooper Zarek Finely, at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Thursday, November 8th he observed a dark colored Oldsmobile passenger car traveling southbound on State Road 9, just south of the Toll Road in excess of the posted speed limit. As Finley got in behind the vehicle, a computer check revealed the license plate was registered to a different vehicle.
Finley initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Stephanie M. Wagler and her passenger, Marty C. O’Brien, Jr. During the course of the interaction, O’Brien was asked to exit the vehicle, and when he finally complied, he became physically resistant to Finley. Trooper Cody Brown assisted in getting O’Brien placed into custody at which time, a syringe was located on O'Brien's person. Wagler was also asked out of the vehicle as LaGrange County Sheriff Deputy Nick Dubea and his K-9 partner Jax prepared to conduct a free air sniff around the vehicle.
Based on Jax’s alerting to the passenger door, a vehicle search was undertaken. A loaded .40 caliber handgun, a .22 caliber handgun, numerous loaded handgun magazines, a suspected substance believed to be marijuana, a suspected substance believed to be methamphetamine, and other items of drug paraphernalia were located.
Both Wagler and O’Brien were transported to the LaGrange County Jail, where more suspected methamphetamine was found on Wagler’s person during the book-in process.
