Voters that live in the Hamilton Community Schools district were asked Tuesday on the ballot for an operating levy of $.71 on every $100 of assessed land. The current referendum of $.41 expires December 31, 2019.
Voters rejected the Hamilton Community Schools' operating referendum with 781 people voting "yes" and 975 people voting "no."
The school board will decide if they want to try again in May, or close the school and consolidate with neighboring districts.
School officials say that there is enough cash for the school to operate through the 2019-2020 school year, but not much beyond that.
