For the Midterm Elections on Tuesday, Steuben County had a 54% voter turnout.
Voters in the Prairie Heights School District approved a tax referendum on Tuesday. There were 2,078 yes votes to 1379 no votes. The referendum will raise local property taxes to pay for general operations of the school that could include giving teacher salaries a boost.
The school question of tax increases for the Hamilton Community School District had the opposite result as Prairie Heights. Hamilton voters had only 594 "yes" votes, with the "no" votes winning with a total count of 745.
The MSD of Steuben County had two school board seats with candidates running in a race. Brad Gardner defeated Mark Cockcroft for the District 2 with Gardner having 66% of the votes. Meanwhile, it was a tight race for the MSD of Steuben County District 3 spot with Scott Poor defeated Kevin Stoy by just 20 votes.
For the Steuben County Council District 1 seat, incumbent Jim Getz, who is a Republican won over Democrat Renee Fenstermaker. Getz having 71% of the vote in that race.
Indiana’s Senate seat flipped as Mike Braun defeated Democrat incumbent Joe Donnelly.
Northeast Indiana Congressman Jim Banks won re-election over Democrat Courtney Tritch.
