A long time Coldwater business will be closing their doors just after the new year.
In a statement, Aunt Millie's President John F. Popp announced that they will be closing their Coldwater bakery. The facility, located on Garfield Road, will close in mid January 2019 as part of a consolidation of bakeries.
The 65 employees of the Coldwater bakery were told Friday of the move. They were also told the company would offer transitional assistance, and they will have job openings for close to half of the workforce at their other bakeries.
Popp says they will keep their Bakehouse division in Coldwater.
The consolidation is part of a plan to optimize the company's bakery network according to Popp. He says this decision was made after all other options were thoroughly looked at.
Aunt Millie's has five bakeries, with three location in Kalamazoo, Plymouth and Jackson, Michigan. The company has 1,600 employees and has been family owned since 1901.
