Steuben county gravel roads most likely won’t be seeing any dust protection anytime soon.
The Steuben County Highway Department said that providing dust control would account for a significant amount of the highway budget.
Roughly 1,150 homes in Steuben County are located on gravel roads. That means that an estimated 65 miles of road would need dust control.
County highway officials say that they are currently running at a cost of $6,000 a mile for dust control, the cost for materials would be about $300,000 with another $100,000 for application.
