The other auction in Shipshewana last weekend was for the historic automobiles from Hostetler Hudson Museum.
Classic Cars dot com Editor Larry Edsall estimated the vehicles brought a total of $6.65 million and that the total sale would be higher once memorabilia and commissions were factored in.
WorldWide Auctioneers did not have a total number posted on their website this morning.
A Hudson Italia – one of only 25 surviving – sold for $620-thousand dollars.
A 1937 Railton special limousine sold for $420-thousand.
The cars remained in their museum showroom while bidding took place in a separate room where it was standing room only. Other bidders participated through a phone bank.
The collection was donated to the Town of Shipshewana by Eldon Hostetler – who with his wife, Esta, collected the vehicles. A beautiful showroom was built by the town but the museum was not a financial success.
Supporters tried to find ways to keep it open but sustainable funding could not be found.
