Report of Intoxicated Persons Result in Two State Police Pursuit

Steuben County Deputies were called to the Wendy’s restaurant at the Pilot truck stop located at 6900 N Old 27 on a report of some intoxicated individuals. The report came in on Wednesday night at around 10:30 p.m.
Authorities responded to the area and found the vehicle matching the description they were given leaving the area south bound on Old 27. As the vehicle turned west bound onto County Road 700 North, it was observed committing several traffic violations.
The vehicle failed to stop when Steuben County Deputies attempted to stop it. The vehicle led Deputies into Lagrange County, then north the stateline where the Sturgis Police Department took over the pursuit.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle drove into a retention pond at the City of Sturgis Waste Water Treatment Plant. Controlled substances were found in the vehicle, which was also found to be reported as stolen from Hillsdale, MI.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Travis Fitch, age 27 of Fremont. Passengers in the vehicle were James Scott, age 41 of Kendallville and Brandon Shockley, age 30 of Muncie.
There are no reported injuries. The case was turned over to Sturgis, MI police department, where it remains under investigation.
In addition to the Steuben County Sheriff's Department, also responding to this pursuit was the Lagrange County Sheriff’s Office, Lagrange Police Department, Wolcottville Police Department, & Sturgis Police Department.
