Details have been released on a fatal crash in Steuben County at US 20 at County Road 360 West.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department responded to a personal injury crash on US 20 at the intersection of 360 West just after 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The Sheriff's Department investigation revealed that Bruce A Coney, age 58 from Angola, Indiana, was stopped in a Dodge truck waiting to turn South, onto County Road 360 West. Authorites say that a Ford Explorer driven by Tedd J Moss, age 54 from Angola, was also traveling West on US 20 and attempted to stop for the Dodge truck stopped in traffic. At that time, reports indicate that a GMC truck driven by Jake Fink, age 22 year from Lagrange, Indiana was behind the Ford Explorer and struck the rear of the Ford Explorer forcing the Ford Explorer into the rear of the Dodge truck.

Authorities say the impact forced the Ford Explorer into the Eastbound lane of US 20 where it struck a semi-tractor trailer head on. The semi was being driven by Benjamin T Matheny, age 29 year from Utica Ohio.

Moss, the driver of the Ford Explorer was transported to Parkview Memorial Hospital by Samaritan helicopter for his injuries. His passenger, Cindy L Mirkle, age 55 from Angola Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene by Steuben County Coroner Bill Harter. Her death was a result of blunt force trauma.

Bruce Coney, Jake Fink and Benjamin Matheny were not injured in the crash.

Alcoholic beverages were not a factor in this crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff’s office.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Angola City Police, Indiana State Police, Steuben County EMS, Angola Fire Department, and Indiana Department of transportation.
