Steuben County Council Members & Other County GOP Seek Offices

Wednesday was the official first day that those interested in running for county government could officially file in Steuben County. So far, a total of 15 people signed up to run in this year’s primary election in Steuben County, and they are all Republicans.

Steuben County Council member Jim Getz says he has officially filed for another term for his seat. Getz represents District 1 in Steuben County.
Also making a return in District 3 for his council seat is current Steuben County Council President Rick Shipe.

In addition the other two incumbent county councilmen whose seats are up have filed, including Ken Shelton, District 2 and Wil Howard, District 4.

Rodney “RJ” Robinson filed for Steuben County Sheriff. Robinson made a public announcement on the matter in 2017, that he planned to run.

Tangi Manahan filed for Steuben County Clerk.

David B. Martin and Mary V. Martin have filed to the state Republican Convention delegates.

Seeking the office of surveyor for ninth term is Larry Gilbert. He has served in the position for almost 32 years, first elected in 1986.

Seeking re-election is Auditor Kim Meyers, Recorder Linda Myers, and Assessor Kim Johnson.

Three people have filed for township trustee seats: Barbara Cleverly for Richland Township, Marcia Helmuth for Salem Township, and Lawnie “Mike” McClelland for Pleasant Township. Both Cleverly and Helmuth are aready serving in their positions. McClelland most recently served on the Angola Common Council before moving out of city limits. He was also the Sheriff of Steuben Counnty.

Officials with the Steuben County Democratic Party say they plan to file as a group sometime in February, likely during the last week of sign-up.
