Quincy H.S. Principal And Superintendent Placed On Leave
Monday May 15, 2017 12:01pm
Quincy Community Schools • Quincy, MI

Two administrators in the Quincy School District have been placed on leave.

According to WWMT, the Quincy School Board voted to place Superintendent Craig Artist and High School Principal David Spalding on paid administrative leave during a special meeting Saturday morning. The moves were done as an internal investigation is being conducted on how the District responded to and handled allegations of criminal sexual conduct against a former high school teacher and an underage student.

Forty-three year old Jason Ferrell resigned as a teacher at Quincy High School. He had been a teacher in Quincy for 20 years. He is facing multiple charges of criminal sexual conduct with a 15 year old female student.

Ferrell was arrested at his residence in Battle Creek. Calhoun County authorities have filed three more charges of CSC against Ferrell.

Parents, students and teachers in Quincy have accused the administration of the school district of ignoring warnings about Ferrell's behavior while the alleged incidents were happening.

The School District's attorney, Robert Huber, says the investigation should take a few weeks. The Branch County Prosecutor's Office has also started an investigation into possible negligence against the School District.
